OFFSET ISSUANCE LATEST: Single ODS project issued 55,996 credits

November 27, 2013 by CaliforniaCarbon.info

Californiacarbon.info, November 27, 2013: At 12pm today, the Air Resources Board (ARB) made its second announcement for November regarding the number of offset credits issued, and its fifth ever since the beginning of the program. The issuance to a single Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) project of 55,996 credits was announced, a far cry from the figure at the last round two weeks ago, when some 2.06 million credits were issued to eight projects, with the California-based Willis Woods US forestry project alone scoring more than half this total. This brings the total number of credits issued to 3,238,096, and the number of projects to have been awarded offsets to 16.

With only 55,996 credits to its name, the EOS Climate project, known simply as EOS ARB ODS 2013-2, has fetched one of the smaller credit amounts to have been seen thus far. It is, however, a larger quantity than that fetched by the previous American Carbon Registry (ACR) project to have been successfully ARB- verified – Wabashco Clean Sweep 1 received 50,600 credits around this time last month. The 1.11 million earned by the Willis Woods forestry project in California remains the largest, with seven of the other sixteen projects thus far surpassing the 100,000-mark.

Thus far, ODS has accounted for more than half of all credits (1,845,942 of 3,238,096) issued by the ARB, and 12 of the 16 projects to have been successful. With five projects on the board, EOS Climate accounts for nearly one in three successful ARB- compliance undertakings. This is the ninth

credited ODS project to operate in Arkansas, with Ohio the only other state to contribute projects of this type at this stage. All three of the ACR’s credited projects have been compliance projects, whereas all but one of the Climate Action Reserve (CAR’s) have been early action.

The next scheduled announcement of ARB offset credits will take place on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. At present, the ARB makes announcements on the second and fourth working Wednesdays of each month.
