Climate Connect Ltd. was established in 2010 and is the parent company of CaliforniaCarbon.info. The other products in the stable are EAGLE (Electricity And Gas Learning Engine), an Artificial Intelligence driven software for short term power markets; ChinaCarbon.net.cn for the Chinese carbon markets; and IndiaPowerTrading.info, an information portal using machine learning techniques to forecast prices in the Indian power market.
Michael Carter is Mentor and Advisor to Climate Connect Limited. Based in Colorado, USA, his work has included market and industry analysis on a range of industry topics including commodity pricing, wholesale pricing analysis and forecasting, and retail cost analysis. Michael was, till recently, head of Energy at SNL Financial, leading a team of several hundred analysts providing information to US markets. SNL was recently acquired by McGraw Hill. Prior to SNL, he worked with Duff & Phelps, Platts and Financial Times. Michael holds a Master’s degree from Colorado School of Mines and Bachelor’s degree in Geology from The Australian National University.
For CaliforniaCarbon.info, Michael provides strategic guidance on how to develop forecasts, publications and analytics benchmarked against global information industry standards. With vast experience in RGGI and EUETS markets, he also suggests ideas and concepts that could be adapted for newly formed carbon markets such as California, Quebec and ChinaMichael Carter
Alex Rau is the founding partner of Climate Wedge Ltd, an independent firm based in San Francisco providing carbon finance and emissions trading related investment advisory services. Alex has over fifteen years of experience in climate finance, carbon markets, and environmental commodities, having advised numerous clients such as Cheyne Capital, McKinsey & Co, Rio Tinto, News Corporation, Electricite de France, California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), PricewaterhouseCoopers and Wärtsilä, and has traded with counterparties spanning the global power and fuels sectors.
He is on the board of Up Energy Group and cofounded leading US carbon developer, EOS Climate, and has managed investments in carbon and related commodity markets for several funds. He co-authored the Voluntary Carbon Standard, the most widely accepted trading standard for non-Kyoto carbon assets, and has published in journals ranging from Science to Harvard Business Review. Alex has a Ph.D. in physics from Oxford University, a B.A. from Cornell University, and is a CFA charterholder.Alex Rau
Steven Neoh was on the Climate Connect staff from 2012 to 2015. He was the first CaliforniaCarbon.info product manager, before then heading the global carbon markets team in 2014. His work bridged the functions of product development and analytical research, and consolidated Climate Connect's expertise and outreach in the North American and Chinese carbon markets. Steven holds a BA in History from Oxford University, and an MSc in Environmental Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and is now exploring new openings for environmental entrepreneurship.Steven Neoh
Nitin Tanwar is the Founder and CEO of Climate Connect Ltd. Nitin can be found brainstorming with the team on strategic directions for CaliforniaCarbon.info, engaged in raising funds for operations, and aiding in marketing. As CEO of the parent company Climate Connect, Nitin formulates the executive strategy of all the products within the stable. Before founding Climate Connect, Nitin was a Carbon Associate with commodities trading giant Cargill.
He holds a Master’s in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, a Certificate in Sustainability from ETH Zurich, and a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, India. He is a regular speaker at international conferences and was one of the youngest authors to publish in Elsevier’s Energy Policy journal. Rahul Rana is Head of Marketing and Business Development at CaliforniaCarbon.info, as well as being the Lead on all of the company’s carbon products. His duties with CaliforniaCarbon.info include leading outreach and marketing strategy, relationship building with existing subscribers, and crafting the long-term direction of the business. He particularly enjoys the opportunity to engage with clients and gather market sentiment as well as feedback on the product. Working closely on matters related to carbon allowance trading and cap-and-trade policy fulfils his prior interest in carbon markets and climate policy, which was cultivated while completing his MSc in Climate Sciences and Policy Studies at The Energy and Resources Institute in Delhi, India. He spends his free time travelling, reading classics, and playing music on his guitar.Rahul Rana
Harry Horner is the Head of California for CaliforniaCarbon.info, he has overall responsibility for the service’s operations and manages delivery of all content, implementation of new product features, and product strategy. Harry is also the primary analyst for the allowances market, and also handles most policy and legal analysis for CaliforniaCarbon.info. Because of the wide analytical remit, he enjoys being in close contact with a network of respective experts in their fields, and thus monitors the pulse of the WCI program.
Harry recently graduated from Pembroke College, Oxford University with a Bachelors in History and Economics. During his degree, Harry worked at several British asset management companies including Fleming Family & Partners, Artemis, and Chelverton Asset Management. Harry is a keen rugby player, the sport has taking him from Twickenham to Mongolia, and he has recently added ‘Delhi Hurricanes’ to his list of capped rugby clubs.Harry Horner
Rohan Nongpiur is the Product Manager at CaliforniaCarbon.info. His focused role centers on intensive analysis of offset trends in the WCI, contributing regular reports, articles, as well as the construction of interactive analytical tools.
His previous experiences include modelling, forecasting and engineering work with companies running portfolios in the renewable energy sector. Rohan grew up across four continents and holds a Bachelors of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia, as well as an Msc in Energy Management from the University of Stirling. He enjoys the outdoors, and always keen to seek out the next trekking experience.Rohan Nongpiur
Chandan Kumar is the Chief Economist at Climate Connect. He has developed and operated the supply-demand and price forecast models for California carbon allowances since 2013. He has worked extensively on profiling greenhouse gas emissions (and emitters) in California and Quebec, and achieved a market best accuracy of 99.7% in forecasting California’s 2014 emissions. Chandan holds an MSc in Economics from the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, specialising in financial econometrics and macroeconomics.
He has previously worked with think tanks including the National Foundation for India, Kirti, and the Health & Development Initiatives (HDI); and has constructed econometric models for Capital-K Financial Advisory Services. Chandan retains a keen interest in food, and follows developments in this sector in his own time.Chandan Kumar
Billy Hamshaw is a Market Analyst for CaliforniaCarbon.info, Billy completes our analytical team and is looking to specialize in both the offset market and focus on the Canadian partners in the WCI.
Billy is a recent graduate of Imperial College London, with an MSc in Environmental Technology. During his studies he specialized in Global Environmental Change & Policy and has enjoyed exploring the interplay between development finance and policy through his thesis. Prior to joining this course, Billy holds a BSc in Biology from Newcastle University. As a keen surfer, he took great pleasure in exploring the cold waters of the English and Scottish coastline.
